Community matters at The Dothan Regional Airport. That’s why we have created Adventures In Aviation Kid’s Camp, a brand new outreach program designed for Dothan City School students, 10-12 years old, who lack exposure to the air travel industry. This three-day camp is being held June 22-24, 2021, and is created to engage and educate youth about general aviation and the operations of The Dothan Regional Airport. The camp is free of charge to students and includes lunch, snacks, and transportation for students to and from the airport each day, meeting at the Dothan Civic Center.

Twenty-five campers were accepted for this inaugural experience. Some of the exciting topics we plan on covering during the interactive camp include careers in aviation, airport operations, and travel. Participants will meet and hear from airport administration and personnel, tour each tenant to observe operations, travel to Friends of Army Aviation hangar to view their Vietnam-era aircraft, along with other exciting and interactive activities.

“Through our first Adventures In Aviation Kid’s Camp, The Dothan Regional Airport is committed to offering a safe, structured, and exciting experience for each of our attendees” stated Airport Director, Adam Hartzog. “Our airport connects the community to the world, and we’re committed to giving back to our local community by cultivating partnerships, fostering relationships, and inspiring a future generation of aviation leaders.”

Applications are now closed for the 2021 camp. The Dothan Regional Airport’s Adventures In Aviation Kid’s Camp will be an annual summer event.
