Airport Maintenance Technician / Facility Maintenance Worker

Position Summary
The Airport Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain, repair, and improve airport buildings, grounds, airfield infrastructure, terminals, and related facilities. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of airport assets in compliance with FAA, TSA, and local regulations while supporting a clean, functional, and professional environment for passengers, tenants, and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on buildings, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems (up to authorized levels), lighting, doors, windows, and other facility systems.
  • Maintain and repair airfield assets including pavement (asphalt/concrete), markings, signs, lighting systems, drainage, fencing, and landscaping in accordance with FAA standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of terminals, hangars, parking areas, roadways, and support facilities; identify and report deficiencies.
  • Respond to work orders and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles such as mowers, forklifts, aerial lifts, and light-duty trucks.
  • Perform groundskeeping duties including mowing, debris cleanup, and vegetation control.
  • Assist with minor construction, renovation, and remodeling projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment condition; enter data into computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and airport security requirements (including SIDA badge compliance).
  • Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and tenants as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or related trade work (airport or industrial experience preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security credentials (SIDA badge, AOA access) and pass background checks.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, in confined spaces, outdoors in all weather conditions, and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an airport, transportation facility, or regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of FAA airfield standards and airport operations.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry trades.

Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. The position involves exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and moving equipment. Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety and security regulations.

    Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist

    Hours: Flexible start and end times (daytime hours)

    Position Summary
    The Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper/Accounting Specialist to manage daily bookkeeping, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and human resources support functions. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial operations of the Airport Authority.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Process customer invoicing and maintain accurate Accounts Receivable records.
    • Manage Accounts Payable, including vendor invoice processing, payment scheduling, and reconciliations.
    • Perform all departments payroll entry and processing, including timely and accurate submission of payroll data.
    • Maintain detailed records of employee vacation, sick, and other leave time.
    • Handle various HR duties, including onboarding new employees and maintaining employee files.
    • Manage retirement plan record-keeping and ensure compliance with plan requirements.
    • Assist the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer with general bookkeeping, record maintenance, and financial documentation.
    • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to the Executive Director in preparation for monthly Board meetings.
    • Maintain organized and accurate financial records using QuickBooks.
    • Reconcile accounts and ensure all financial transactions are properly documented.
    • Perform other accounting and administrative tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Experience: 5–10 years of hands-on experience with QuickBooks (required).
    • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
    • Professional appearance and demeanor (business professional dress required).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the leadership team.

    Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and comprehensive background check.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Pay: Competitive hourly rate (to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications).
    • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, with flexible beginning and ending hours.
    • Retirement: Employer matches up to 5% contribution to retirement plan.
    • Health Insurance: 100% of the employer’s portion of individual health insurance is covered by the Authority.
    • Vacation: 1 week after initial 90 day probationary period, 2 weeks annually after first year.
    • Holidays: A total of nine holidays observed annually.
